The broken teapot, it was a cloudy night, and rain began tapping on the bedroom window. Alice and Freddy were meant to be asleep, but they were not asleep, not even nearly asleep. They were building a tower of books in their room, trying to reach a mysterious smudge on the ceiling. Freddy insisted it looked like a dragon. Alice thought it just looked like spaghetti sauce, though who knows how it got up there. Suddenly Alice heard a tiny click sound, the same sound as before. Behind the dresser, steam curled out from a tiny golden edged door. Alice grin, look Freddy, the door is back. Freddy scrambled down from the book tower. Do you think it's the kind witch Molly b Bromwell again? They opened the little door and peeked inside. Sure enough, there was the same staircase they saw before. Glittering softly in the lamplight. A familiar voice floated up. Do come quickly, starlings. We have a little situation here, hand in hand. They climb through the door and down into Molly Broom, Well's Cozy Kitchen. But this time something wasn't quite right. Teacups were bouncing around in circles. Napkins flew around like startled birds, and in the middle of it all, Molly stood frowning at her broomstick, A broken teapot dangled from the front of it. Oh dear. Oh dear. This just won't do. Molly muttered her pointy hat, tilted sideways. What happened? Asked both Alice and Freddy. At once a sudden breeze knocked me sideways on my broomstick. She explained, and then crack down. Went the teapot. Freddie Knelt beside it, the handle had snapped clean off and the spout drooped. Sadly, the broom won't fly properly without it. No teapot, no balance, you see, and we can't have a midnight glide with a wobbly broomstick. Can it be fixed? Alice asked, hopefully, oh, yes, said Molly, but not by me. This is a job for my sister. Sister asked Freddy, Molly Winked. Yes. My sister, Mindy Broom. Well, she can fix anything. Follow me please. She opened the kitchen door and outside waited. Not a broomstick. But a marvelous bicycle with three little armchairs side by side where the seats should be. Each chair was squishy and covered in soft velvet. Little foot pedals peaked out beneath each chair, ready for them to pedal together through the night sky. Alice climbed onto an edge seat, and Freddy took the middle. Molly climbed on board and with a soft whistle and puff of magical smoke, the bicycle lifted into the air as the three pedal tapley, they zipped through silvery clouds, skimmed over rooftops and spotted sleeping owls nestled in trees. Their feathers ruffling gently in the breeze until they reached a little hail where a little cottage stood. Mindy Molly called as they landed beside a Rose Bush in her front garden. The front door creaked open a outs stepped a woman in a brilliant patchwork purple cape and pointy purple witches hat. Her hair was tied up with measuring tape and her glasses were held together with glue. Well, hello, Molly. Mindy said with a soft smile. Her eyes twinkling. What brings you here tonight? Molly sighed, but return the smile. Just a little mishap and a teapot that needs a good fixing. I'm afraid. Can you help Mindy stepped forward? Come in, let's see what we can do. The cottage was a wonderland of mended things. There were clocks made from broken spoons. Teacups turned into flower pots and rugs sewn from old scarves. A wobbly lamp walked itself across the room to have a better look at the visitors. Freddy stopped and stared at a peculiar chair in the corner. That chair has 11 legs. Is it meant to Mindy chuckled? Of course, nothing in this house is exactly as expected. Molly held out the broken teapot. Hmm. Said Mindy. Turning it over, cracked, bent, and slightly scorched. Lovely. Let's get to work. She spread out a tablecloth made from old picnic blankets Fixing something broken takes three things. Mindy explained, a little love, a little patience, and a lot of marmalade. Marmalade. Freddy asked eyes wide, not just for look. Mindy smiled pulling a jar from a wooden shelf. It helps me think she toasted slices of thick bread spreading each with a generous, sticky layer of golden marmalade. Here she said, handing a warm slice to each of them. Toast always helps when you're solving tricky problems. They munched quietly as Mendy studied the teapot. After a few thoughtful bites, she nodded. I think I have just the idea. Mendy gave a flick of her magic wand. The teapot wobbled spun in the air and landed gently back on the table in front of the two astonished children. Good. As new Mindy announced, Molly smiled. Let's make some cocoa just to test it. She poured steamy milk and cocoa powder into the teapot. Soon a rich, chocolatey smell filled the cozy cottage. Molly popped two pink marshmallows in each pretty cup and handed them to Alice, Freddy and Mindy. It's perfect. Freddy said, grinning. Still feeling warm from the cocoa. They climbed back onto the bicycle armchair. Alice held the fixed teapot carefully in her hands. As the bike gently lifted off. They pedaled home through the stars and clouds. The night was cold, so they pulled soft blankets around themselves back home. Molly walked them to their beds and took them both in. And with a puff of lavender steam, she was gone. The next morning, Alice and Freddy woke to sunshine streaming in the window. They grinned at each other and began planning what else they might meant on their next adventure. The end.
